2008 Honorees

Jim Langley, PGA PROFESSIONAL

Arnold Palmer, PGA TOUR VETERAN

Mr. Langley has played three years on the PGA Tour, was named 2006 NCPGA Golf Professional of the Year, and for 34 years held the position of PGA Head Golf Professional at the world famous Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach. Langley has been giving back hundreds of times over what the game has given him through many programs and lessons, especially for junior golfers.

One of the most charismatic and popular golfers to grace the PGA Tour, Arnold Palmer's swashbuckling, go-for-broke style, combined with an aggressive, unorthodox swing, and charisma, made him a fan favorite. Off the course, Palmer is a successful entrepreneur who created golf academies, tournament and course management companies, equipment companies, clothing lines and more. His success in business has only been eclipsed by his generosity in giving back to the game, which gave him so many opportunities.

The Langley, Beneficiaries

NCPGA Saving Strokes Clinics
Started in Sacramento in 2001, Saving Strokes is a Golf Fitness and Training Program for stroke victors, which promotes rehabilitation through golf. Through a partnership with the American Heart Association and local golf courses, the NCPGA Saving Strokes Golf Clinics have empowered stroke victors and physically challenged in our region by providing them with the opportunity to learn and play the great game of golf. Through golf, they are able to improve their strength, flexibility and balance. Approximately 700 stroke survivors and their caregivers have benefited from Saving Strokes over the last eight years. This alternative mode of physical therapy rehabilitation provides participants with the ability to move down the road to recovery as well as build lifelong relationships.
